Behind the Scenes of the Design of PORT45

April 27, 2017

The team behind PORT45 embodies a partnership of some of the industry’s leading creative minds in design, construction and lifestyle. We’re giving you the inside scoop on the inspiration behind the interior design of PORT45 with a Q&A with Alina Wolhardt of acclaimed interior design firm, Wolf in Sheep Design.

Read on to learn more:

1.       Tell us about Wolf in Sheep Design’s overall design philosophy.

I think designing is always a collaborative effort and the process with the clients is a key element. It's a group effort to get to the end result. And it's important to think of all the senses when you're designing a space. What I ask myself the most is how is one going to feel when they enter a space? Everything from scale, comfort, smell, and lighting becomes a key aspect to the design. And most importantly we try to have fun with all of our projects!

2.     In one sentence, describe your firm’s mission.

We try to bring the unexpected and bespoke design to the spaces we create.

3.    What, or who, inspires your work?
One of my most favorite things to do is to travel. All of my travels inspire me. Seeing different cultures and their use of space and color always gives me inspiration.

4.    What is your top design tip?
Design tips... in terms of mixing styles and metals, you should never be too concerned about following any specific rules, just try to stick with what you like. I think mixing different metals in a room totally is okay and mixing styles can look very cool, as well.

What you need to be most careful of is the scale of things. A lot of times, you see a sofa or something that might look great in a furniture showroom, but will not necessarily translate well in your own home. Restoration Hardware is a good example. Their pieces look great in their showroom, but their showroom is extremely large so it will look very different in your house - especially if you live in a condo in the city.

5.    How would you describe the design of PORT45?
Classic, modern and timeless. We wanted to make the homes feel cohesive, but also like a canvas so that it can be personalized by the individual buyers.

6.    What is one of your favorite features of the property?
The lobby is my favorite part of the design. I think it's going to look very modern and chic. The high ceilings with the backlit accent wall is very understated, but impactful.

7.    As you know, PORT45 is located where South Boston, South End and Seaport meet. What are some of your favorite places within these neighborhoods?
My personal favorite spots are the Maiden, KO Pies, Myers + Chang in the South End, Flour Bakery, and Row 34.
